AIR FORCE COMMON ADDMISSION TEST

AFCAT (AIR FORCE COMMON ADDMISSION TEST) is the national level written examination organised by the Indian Air Force for the selection of officers for its respective three branches: Flying, Technical and Ground Duty. The Flying Branch is for Transports, Fighters, and Helicopters. The Technical Branch of AIR FORCE deals with the Mechanical and Electronic details, whereas the Ground Duty Branch takes care of Education and Meteorology, Accounts, Logistics, Administration. This examination is conducted 2 times a year in the month of February and August or September. The exam tests the student’s skills in Numerical aptitude, English, General Awareness, Verbal and Nonverbal reasoning.
SUBJECTS COVERED
1) General Awareness :- Basic Science, History, Geography, Civics, Art, Culture, Sports, environment, Current Affairs, Defence, Politics etc.
2) Verbal Calibre in English :- Sentence Structuring, Grammar Correction, Comprehension, Synonyms & Antonyms , Testing of Vocabulary.
3) Numerical Calibre :-Simple Interest, Decimal fraction, Average, Profit & Loss, Simplification, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion.
4) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test :- Verbal Skills and spatial Ability.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

Flying Branch

Age: 20 to 24 years Candidates holding valid and current commercial Pilot up to 26 years.
Educational Qualifications : Graduates (3 year degree course minimum) in any discipline from a well-known University who have attained min of 60 % marks or equivalent have passed Mathematics and Physics at 10+2 level or BE / B tech degree (4 year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a well-known University with minimum of 60 % marks or equivalent
Branch Qualification
Administration & Logistics Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Accounts B. Com. degree (Minimum three year degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Education MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation (both recognised by UGC / Competent Accreditation Authority).
NOTE: Candidates appearing in final year/semester exam may apply for all courses provided they fulfil the following conditions: –
  • Candidates should not have any backlog and should have obtained a min of 60 % marks till the last semester / year for which results are declared at the time of online submission and at the time of SSB.
  • Candidates ought to be able to give provisional / original degree certificate issued by University by the date given in notification.
TYPES OF COMMISSION
PC (PERMANENT COMMISSION) for Men: Candidates who are willing to enroll as PC Officers will have to continue to serve till the age of retirement.
SSC (Short Service Commission) for both Men & Women:
  • The engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is 14 years, starting from the date of commission (Not extendable).
  • The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech) and Ground Duty (NonTech) Branches would be for a duration of 10 years. An expansion of 4 years may be granted subject to willingness, service requirements, suitability, and availability of vacancies.
